With so many wonderful people credited with this quote; Buddha, Emerson, Lao Tzu, Beckwaith,and more, maybe we ought to heed it’s words.
“Watch your thoughts. They become words. Watch your words. They become deeds. Watch your deeds. They become habits. Watch your habits. They become character. Character is everything.”
Our thoughts are the beginning of our heaven or hell on earth. I know that may seem a bit strong, but take a look how they can be a benefit or reek havoc.
You’re heading to work to give a presentation to a group of twenty and on the way begin doubting yourself. Thoughts like; “I can never pull this off, why did they pick me to begin with, I’m not that good at this, they’re going to be bored, oh no maybe I should call in sick.” And on and on you go getting so stressed and worked up that your stomach is in knots and your legs shaky that by the time you get to work you’re a mess before the meeting has even started.
But what if you used it for your benefit? As soon as you hear those pesky doubting negative thoughts come in, stop yourself and make a conscious change. Begin thinking how your boss did pick you do give the presentation and wouldn’t have if she thought you couldn’t handle it. Think about the great ideas you’ve come up with in the past and were upset with because you did not get to make the presentation yourself and what a great opportunity you are now given. Add in some powerful affirmations and see yourself shining. By the time you get to work you’ll be excited and ready to go.
The next time you find your thoughts in darkness think about what it does to your character, if this is not who you want to be then quickly change your thoughts. It may feel fake, or like you’re telling yourself a lie, but always remember; an acorn is still a mighty oak.
